In case you been under a rock, Floyd & 50 teamed up to start promoting fights! I guess Golden Boy Promotions feel like their toes are getting stepped on!
NEW YORK—In light of the fact that his hip-hop relevancy factor is on a steep decline, rapper 50 Cent has decided to make another move and get into promoting fights.
50 has apparently jumped in the ring on behalf of his friend Floyd “Money” Mayweather to launch TMT Promotions.
TMT stands for The Money Team which is a group of musicians, athletes and assorted entertainers that often flock to Mayweather.
TMT has been granted a license to promote fights in New York and is in the process of procuring one in Nevada as well.
Obviously the promotion will work with Mayweather and is looking to sign former featherweight title holder Yuri Gamboa and super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell according to Sports Illustrated.
“I think he’s going to be involved on the promotion side,” Mayweather said. “We may even put him out there, let him fight on pay-per-view one time. So we don’t really know what the future holds, but he is getting involved with boxing.”
Besides working as a comedic actor, there is not a better vehicle for 50. Those that are familiar with his rap career are in tune with his pre-album release promotions have centered around who he has problems with and how he plans on ruining their lives/careers; or so the storylines go.
TMT will certainly be successful and I would not be surprised if they are a lynchpin in getting Money in the ring with Manny Pacquiao.
