"Third Ward helped me raise my girls," the 72-year-old said "Coming home to support the health of mothers and babies in this community is about watering the roots that made us who we are." Long before Beyoncé became a global superstar and Destiny's Child took over the charts, the Knowles family was building its future in Houston's Third Ward. Knowles and her former husband, Mathew Knowles, ran Headliners Hair Salon, a successful business that helped lay the foundation for their family's success before the music industry entered the picture. Mathew recently highlighted just how successful the salon had become. "For all of y'all that talk sh*t to think Beyoncé made me, no," he said. "We were millionaires when she was... four years old." He credited the salon with helping the couple earn their first million dollars in 1985, pushing back against the idea that the family's wealth began with Beyoncé's music career.
