Anne Hathaway And Meryl Streep Raps Lauryn Hill Classic "Doo Wop (That Thing)"

Anne Hathaway fan-girled over a Lauryn Hill classic during an interview for The Devil Wears Prada 2 along with co-star Meryl Streep, about her go-to karaoke song that she knows “bar for bar” and that people would be surprised by. Hathaway went all-in, reciting the opening verse of Hill’s 1998 hit “Doo Wop (That Thing).” The track was also a single from Hill’s solo debut, and only solo studio album to date, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Streep also joined along to sing the “Doo Wop” chorus. “I do need to look at the words for the second verse,” Hathaway admitted.“I was 15 or 16 when that album came out and I lived inside of it for a year,” Hathaway said about Miseducation. “That was a great album,” Steep added, to which Hathaway recommended that listeners “listen to the whole thing.” “‘To Zion’ … my little 16-year-old self was trying to sing those notes. Didn’t hit ‘em. Still haven’t,” Hathaway concluded. Miseducation scored Hill eight Grammy Awards in 1999, including Album of the Year and Best New Album, making her the first female artist to achieve the historic feat.
