Former Philadelphia Eagles Star Alshon Jeffery Faces Felony Insurance Fraud Charge

Former Philadelphia Eagles star Alshon Jeffery, one of the biggest names from the franchise’s Super Bowl run, was arrested in California on an alleged insurance fraud charge. Jeffery, 36, was taken into custody for allegedly concealing or failing to disclose an insurance benefit or payment tied to what his camp described as a “minor freeway fender bender.” He was later released, and authorities have not publicly shared additional details about the incident. Jeffery’s representative, Denise White, pushed back hard on the allegations in a statement, saying the former Eagles wide receiver “categorically denies the allegations. “The underlying incident was a minor freeway fender bender, and he provided his information at the scene,” White said. “These are unfounded allegations only, and Alshon has not been convicted of any offense.” White added that Jeffery intends to fight the case and believes “the facts will demonstrate this was a misunderstanding and nothing more.” Jeffery caught the first touchdown of Super Bowl LII, hauling in a 34-yard pass from Nick Foles over Eric Rowe as Philadelphia went on to beat the New England Patriots 41-33 for the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy. Jeffery finished that game with three catches for 73 yards and spent four seasons in Philadelphia after arriving from the Chicago Bears in 2017. Before that, he made a name for himself in Chicago, where he earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2013 after posting 1,421 receiving yards. The former South Carolina standout has not played in the NFL since the Eagles released him in 2021. South Carolina retired his No. 1 jersey in 2023. Under California law, insurance fraud is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
