J. Cole Says It Was 'Disgusting' How People Tried To Tear Down Drake During Kendrick Lamar Beef

J. Cole suggested that he thought it was “disgusting” that people were hoping for Drake’s downfall amid his beef with Kendrick Lamar in 2024. In exclusive clips shared by Loren LoRosa on The Breakfast Club, which come ahead of the release of the full episode on Tuesday (March 24), Cam asked Cole if he thinks the Drizzy and K Dot beef got “out of hand” following his decision to bow out. “The world, right away, became like politics,” Cole responded. “You're either Democrat or Republican. You're either [with] Kendrick or you're Drake. And you have to pick a side. And I felt like the n***a that was like disgusted both ways, damn near.” He said that it’s not his place to say whether it “got out of hand,” but he did think the reactions from fans went too far. “[It’s] disgusting how people try to use that opportunity to either show how they really felt about Drake the whole time or just pile on and tear this dude down, and create a narrative as if he's not great,” said Cole. “It was a whole campaign, and probably still is to this day. ”He added that he had conflicted feelings seeing how the beef played out, because he was happy for Kendrick, but didn’t like seeing how Drake was being treated. “So on one hand, I feel weird — and they're going to make headlines out of this. I feel weird,” he said. “When I see Kendrick get the moment he had: the Pop Out, the stadium, the Super Bowl, the Grammys, I'm just as proud of this n***a as I was when I knew him back then. But I also hate that for Drake, and I hate how the world turns on him. And simultaneously I'm over here like, ‘Man, I hope Iceman go crazy. he spoke about where his relationship is with both artists these days. “Personally, where you at with them friendship-wise today?” Cam asked Cole “I'm in the same place,” Cole replied. “Where it's like, Yo, I genuinely love these n***as, but I'm not going to act like we've been communicating and talking. I've had conversations with them post-everything. But not a lot. That's me not knowing where they at. … But it has nothing to do with how I actually feel. I genuinely love these n***as. I be wanting to shoot off a text. Even saying that on a mic is kind of lame to me, but it is my truth.”
