Yuck! Taiwanese Woman's Ear Infested With Fruit-Fly Larva & Maggots

A Taiwanese woman who went to hospital with earache was shocked to find a maggot living inside her ear.
Fruit-fly larva were also discovered moving around the 48-year-old's ear canal, which was full of a blood-stained discharge.

Doctors at the Tri-Service General Hospital, in Taipei, said the woman had been suffering from severe pain for 24 hours.
They removed her hearing aid to find the critters, which were believed to have been living there for at least a day.

Dr. Cheng-Ping Shih told NBC News the woman's ear was "less sensitive than usual" due to wearing the aid, which had also made the organ warmer and so a more appealing home for the larva.
The case was reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.
It revealed that doctors first filmed the maggot inside the woman's ear before removing it and plying her with antibiotics.
Her earache improved soon after and, two weeks later, the woman was said to be back to normal.
