You Won't Believe Who's Playing Timbaland & Missy Elliot In Aaliyah's Biopic

The Aaliyah biopic coming to the Lifetime network is in the process of rounding out its supporting cast after finally finding its lead in Alexandra Shipp.

Relative newcomers Chattrisse Dolabaille and Izaak Smith have been cast as rapper Missy Elliott and hit producer Timbaland respectively in the working titled "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B" — network rep confirmed to The Wrap.

The well-known hip hop collaborators were instrumental in shaping Aaliyah's music — and their work on her biggest success, her sophomore album "One In A Million," helped to catapult all of their careers to new heights.

The made-for-television biopic about the singer, who died tragically in a plane crash in 2001 at age 22, immediately met opposition by her family — for it being a television movie instead of feature film — and by fans after the film's initial casting of Disney darling Zendaya Coleman as the lead.

Coleman, 17, later dropped out of the project, and was replaced by Shipp, 23.
Now, there appears to be some backlash over the casting of Dolabaille as Elliott. Some fans are concerned that the Canadian actress does not resemble Elliott in any way, according to The Urban Daily.

"Aaliyah: Princess of R&B," which Lifetime announced would premiere this fall, is being produced in part by Wendy Williams and Debra Martin Chase.
