After pleading not guilty in March, YNW Melly has added some neccessary muscle to his growing legal team. XXL reported Friday (April 5) that Boozie Badass' former lawyer, Jason Roger Williams, has been tapped to represent Melly in his double murder case. Court documents show that a Broward County judge approved Williams' addition to the case.
"I feel very confident. We have a very strong team with Brad Cohen and Nicole Burdett and myself," Williams confidently relayed to XXL. "We feel really good about it. This is a process, and we're hoping that it's a fair process and all the evidence comes out." Williams previously helped Boozie get acquitted of first-degree murder charges back in 2012.
The "Murder on My Mind" rapper has remained behind bars without bond since his original Feb. 13 arrest in Florida earlier this year. Authorities believe Melly, born Jamell Demons, to be the gunman in the fatal shootings of Anthony "Sak" Williams and Christopher "Juvy" Thomas Jr., both of who were close freinds of Melly's and in his YNW crew.
The 19-year-old Florida native's alleged accomplice, Cortlen "YNW Bortlen" Henry, was also apprehended by law enforcement for his involvement in the murders. Miramar Police have made claims that forensive and video evidence has led to the notion that Melly and Henry actually staged the crime scene to resemble a drive-by shooting made by an unknown assailant.
YNW Melly will remain in Broward County jail until his case is brought to trial.
