WTF! WHO WOULD OF KNOWN YOU COULD MAKE $3 MILLION DOLLARS BEING A PIRATE!

A crew of 36 held captive for nearly seven weeks aboard a tuna boat was freed Tuesday after the Spanish government reportedly paid Somali pirates $3.3 million in ransom.
More than a dozen armed pirates seized the Spanish trawler Alakrana on Oct. 2 in a plot to collect a huge ransom.

Their plans changed when Spanish naval forces captured two pirates a day after the tuna boat's seizure.

The pirates then demanded the release of their colleagues for the freedom of the crew. They eventually settled for the money, though, one pirate said.

The European Union Naval Force said the Alakrana was back in the open seas, escorted by a pair of Spanish warships.

"Alakrana stated in her call that all the pirates had disembarked the ship and that she had sufficient fuel," the force said in a statement.

"The captain also reported that the crew of 36 was in good health."

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez didn't deny the government paid the ransom when questioned after the captives' release. "The government did what it had to do," Rodriguez said.

"The important thing is that the sailors will be back with us. The first obligation of a country, of the government of a state, is to save the lives of its countrymen."

The Spaniards reportedly paid a $1.2 million ransom in April 2008 to free a crew of 26 aboard a Spanish trawler the pirates had hijacked.

The two captured Somali pirates are due to stand trial in Spain on kidnapping and other charges.

Pirates are still holding about a dozen ships and 200 crew members as hijackings increased in recent weeks.
