IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

WTF! THERE'S AN ONLINE BIDDING WAR FOR FOUR LOKO'S!

Thirsty Four Loko lovers are proving no price is too high for "blackout in a can," gobbling up the sweet booze on Craigslist for more than three times the sticker price.
"Four Loko 4 Sale," reads one of a half-dozen ads on Craigslist.com. "Unopened cans or cases for sale for collectible use only! Must be 21 years of age! $7.00 per can."

On the shelf at your local deli, Four Loko runs devotees $2 or $3. The high resale price comes as New York and the rest of the country prepares to ban the caffeine-infused alcoholic energy drinks later this month.

Several peddlers sold out in hours, even with prices as high as $8 a can.

One dealer, who would only identify himself as 21-year-old "Mike from South Ozone," said he sold "all but four" of the 20 cases he scored last month. He got the sweet elixir for $2 a can and is re-selling it for $5.

"I sold a few as collector's items," Mike said. "I sold some to an older crowd, maybe in their 30s, more like a football fan crew. They came and bought six, then called me back and sent a friend over for more."

Another seller, who identified himself as Phil from the East Village, said he had 10 cans left from a Four Loko party thrown by a friend last weekend. His motivation to sell the stash is self preservation.

"I was like, I got to get rid of these, I can't have these around," said Phil, 26 and unemployed. "That stuff is really a menace. Everything's going fine and then it hits you like a ton of bricks and you don't remember the rest of the night."

Federal officials are banning the controversial concoctions out of concern for public health.

Experts say the high level of alcohol and caffeine makes drinkers unable to tell how drunk they are, leading to alcohol poisoning and a host of other issues associated with binge drinking.

Phil bought the Four Loko in New Jersey for $2.50 each and is selling them for $5.

Asked how he plans to spend the profits, Phil said: "I'll use the money to replace the shoes that I threw up on."
