WTF! MORE THAN 2,000 HUMAN FETUSES ARE FOUND IN A BUDDHIST TEMPLE IN THAILAND!

More than 2,000 human fetuses have been found in a Buddhist temple in Thailand after police raided the house of worship this week.
Authorities had originally discovered 348 fetuses wrapped in plastic bags and newspapers on Tuesday, when disturbing odors alerted them to the Wat Phai Ngern temple in Bangkok. That number skyrocketed after a more exhaustive search of the temple's morgue uncovered hundreds more stored in vaults, The Associated Press reported.

According to Thai police, two of the temple's morticians had been hired by several underground clinics to dispose of the illegally aborted fetuses. One of the undertakers, Suchart Poomee, confessed to collecting fetuses as far back as November of last year.

Poomee and another worker have been arrested and accused of hiding bodies and concealing the cause of death, charges that can lead to one year in jail. An abortion clinic employee, Lanjakorn Jantamanas, faces up to five years in prison for operating an unlicensed medical clinic and performing abortions.

Jantamanas told investigators that she received 500 baht (about $17) per trip to deliver the fetuses to the temple, the Bangkok Post reported. She in turn paid the undertakers 100 baht (less than $4) per delivery.

The fallout from this case has led to the crackdown of Thailand's underground abortion rings, with up to 3,900 illegally run clinics targeted so far.

Abortion is prohibited by law in Thailand, except when the mother's health is in danger, the baby is abnormal or in cases of rape.

Health Minister Jurin Laksanavisith told The Associated Press that some 80,000 legal abortions are performed in Thailand each year. No data was given on the number of illegal abortions that take place.
