North Carolina cops believe a murder suspect slipped a 10-inch revolver into prison by hiding it where the sun don't shine.
Michael Leon Ward was pulled over last week after local police clocked him doing 90 mph along Highway 17 in Dixon, N.C., according to WITN 2 News.
Ward, 22, refused to cooperate and was hit with a stun gun, the station said.
He was taken to a hospital and searched, but no gun was found. Authorities soon discovered Ward was wanted in Georgia on first-degree murder charges, and he was taken to jail, where another thorough search did not turn up a weapon.
The following day, a .38-cal. revolver was discovered in the toilet of Ward’s cell, police said. Authorities believe the unloaded weapon, which was tested and remained fully functional, had been hidden deep within Ward's rectum.
Ward was returned to the hospital, where he was undergoing examinations to determine if any physical damage was done by storing the gun inside his body.
He is charged with murder, armed robbery, driving without a license and resisting arrest, among other counts, police said. He was being held in North Carolina until he can be extradited to Georgia.
