A small town in Ohio is in shock after a man allegedly told a 911 dispatcher that he shot his wife and three young children and then shot himself.
Authorities said that 31-year-old Alan Atwater had mentioned he was having marital problems with his wife, Dawn, in the days leading up to the brutal murder-suicide.
But his relatives said they never expected him to turn a gun on himself – or his adorable children.
"There has been a terrible accident at my house," he reportedly told the operator around midnight Saturday. "My wife and three children are dead."
He then reportedly said he had shot them and added "I'm getting ready to kill myself right now".
When the dispatcher pressed him for details about what had happened, the line then went dead, CBS News reported.
His grandmother, who heard the report of a 911 call on a police scanner, said she recognized the address and immediately called, hoping it was a mistake.
"They were all gone," she said.
Authorities don't believe anyone else was involved in the killings.
