Is "The Situation" really one of a kind?
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will make that determination after receiving an application to trademark the two-word nickname of "Jersey Shore" star Mike Sorrentino.

The six-page Dec. 11 application declares plans to market Situation-themed bathing suits, bathrobes, pullovers, tank tops, tracksuits and tuxedos, among other products.

The application was filed by a New Jersey-based corporation, and it was unclear if the business had any ties to the 28-year-old Sorrentino.

The Staten Islander with the six-pack abs became an instant (and somewhat inexplicable) sensation with the success of the MTV reality show based in Seaside Heights, N.J.

The president of the company requesting the trademark did not return an e-mail message Tuesday.
