A Southern California mother was arrested for tossing her 7-month-old son off the fourth floor of a parking garage, police said.
Surveillance cameras caught Sonia Hermosillo, 31, SUV fleeing the garage at Children's Hospital of Orange County moments after a witness reported seeing her baby fall from the roof Monday night, police said.
Hermosillo was arrested near the hospital at 10:15 p.m. Monday on suspicion of attempted murder. An empty car seat could be seen inside her Chevy Blazer, police said.
The baby was reportedly clinging to life at University of California, Irvine Medical Center.
During the investigation, the boy's father called police to report his wife and son missing, cops said.
Investigators said they aren't sure why Hermosillo would have tried to kill her baby.
"It's a horrific crime," Orange County police Sgt. Dan Adams told the Associated Press. "We obviously don't think this is an accident."
