WTF! AN AUSTRLIAN TOWN IS PLAGUED WITH DRUNK PARROTS!

Alcoholism is a problem faced by millions of humans, but could it be spreading to parrots?
The bizarre behavior exhibited by some of the colorful birds in Australia would suggest it's possible.

Hundreds of lorikeets, a type of small parrot, in the small town of Palmerston have been exhibiting signs of being "drunk," according to AFP.

"They definitely seem like they're drunk," said Lisa Hansen, a veterinary surgeon at the Ark Animal Hospital. "They fall out of trees... and they're not so coordinated as they would normally be. They go to jump and they miss the next perch."

It is unclear what is causing the bizarre behavior, with some possibilities being food they are eating or perhaps a virus.

The animal hospital has been overrun with the parrots, with several being brought in every day.

The birds are being treated with meals of porridge and fresh fruit, which leaves them feeling drowsy and causes them to lie down in their cases in a hangover-like state.

"It's probably the equivalent of ice cream and cans of coke for the lorikeets," Hansen told AFP on Wednesday.

Although similar behavior has been seen in the lorikeets in the past, this latest outbreak is far more widespread.
