IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

A teen from Nepal has reached new heights - as the world's shortest man.

Khagendra Thapa Magar, who turned 18 on Thursday, has finally been granted that coveted title by the Guinness Book of World Records.

"I can confirm that as of today Khagendra Thapa Magar is officially the shortest man in the world," Guinness official Marco Frigatti said.

Family members have for years insisted that the pint-sized Magar, who measures just 26.4 inches from head to foot, is the world's smallest man. However, Guinness would not accept it until he was 18 and showed he had ceased growing.

"I am very happy and excited," Magar said.

"We are very proud of our son," said Magar's father, Rup Bahadur Thapa. "We have been finally recognized and our dreams have finally come true."

Magar, who doctors say has the body of a 3-year-old, weighs just over 12 pounds.

Edward Nino Hernandez, who lives in Bogota, Colombia, has held the shortest man title for little more than a month prior to Magar. The 27.4-inch-tall 24-year-old took the title shortly after the death of He Pingping, who died in March. He was 29-inches tall.
