Chubby Hubby hasn't slimmed down, but he's getting a new name.
Ben & Jerry's announced they are renaming their popular ice cream flavor "Hubby Hubby" for the month of September, to celebrate the first gay and lesbian couples to legally wed in the company's home state of Vermont.
The name change is part of Ben & Jerry's campaign with Freedom to Marry to advocate marriage equality in all states.
"At the core of Ben & Jerry's values, we believe that social justice can and should be something that every human being is entitled to," said Walt Freese, Chief Executive Officer of Ben & Jerry's. "From the very beginning of our 30-year history, we have supported equal rights for all people.
"The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction and something worth celebrating with peace, love and plenty of ice cream."
New Yorkers will have to travel northward to get their souvenir pint, or to pick up a Hubby Hubby sundae: the name change is only in effect in Vermont.
