Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am says the group was looking to the past while creating their upcoming album, “The Beginning.” The emcee tells “Spin” magazine that they really worked hard to give their next record a 1980s vibe. He states, quote, “The ’80s was very unique – it launched humanity into hyper mode. From then to now, we’ve transcended to a totally different culture.” The first single off “The Beginning,” “The Time,” samples the theme song to the 1987 hit film “Dirty Dancing.” Will.i.am says recording the track was actually a pretty unique process, as he was forced to turn a hotel room into a recording studio. He explains, quote, “We had no speakers so I had to hijack the hotel television set and plug my computer into it. I needed a new beat because I had to go DJ that night.” The Black Eyed Peas’ “The Beginning” arrives in stores on November 30th. The record will be their follow-up to last year’s “The E.N.D.,” which produced the hit singles “Boom Boom Pow,” and “I Gotta Feeling.”
