Will Smith Reportedly In Talks To Join Tim Burton's “Dumbo” Remake

Don’t just fly, Will Smith, soar!

For their latest slate of live-action movies reviving animated classics, Disney has reportedly spoken with Will Smith about appearing in a Tim Burton-directed “Dumbo” remake.

Burton’s version is set to be a live-action adaptation of the iconic, animated 1941 film.

According to Deadline, the studio is “moving aggressively toward a production start.”

“Dumbo,” a lighthearted, family option for Smith — about a lovable elephant — will come from a script penned by Ehren Kruger, whose recent credits include the “Transformers” films “Revenge of the Fallen,” “Dark of the Moon” and “Age of Extinction.”

Smith is arguably in somewhat of a funk, after his cheery holiday film, “Collateral Beauty,” was panned by critics and under-performed at the box office.

Following up an impressive performance as Bennet Omalu in 2015’s “Concussion,” Smith had an up-and-down 2016, in two movies reviled by critics: “Suicide Squad,” which still earned $745.6 million, and “Collateral Beauty.”

Next, he’ll take a turn in David Ayer’s Netflix sci-fi fantasy film about human and Orc cops, “Bright,” which has begun filming. He’ll appear alongside Joel Edgerton and Noomi Rapace.

Smith is also working on a start date for “Bad Boys For Life,” where he’ll be reunited with Martin Lawrence. Joe Carnhan is directing that film, Deadline reports.

This possible casting news speaks to something of a movement in Hollywood in the past decade or so, with major stars aligning with live-action Disney remakes. A few recent examples include Johnny Deep in the “Alice in Wonderland” films and Angelina Jolie in “Maleficent.”

Emma Stone will also lend her talents to the role of Cruella De Ville in an upcoming “101 Dalmations” remake.

Burton’s recognizable visual flare will surely find its way to the “Dumbo” script. He’s known for his dark, gothic, and imaginative fantasy films. His recent films include “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Frankenweenie” and “Dark Shadows.”

He got those ears tho …..
