Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am claims a “racist flight attendant” singled him out on a recent Qantas flight and sent police to greet him as he deboarded a plane in Sydney.
The singer, whose real name is William Adams, said the flight attendant confronted him on the plane and asked him to put away his headphones so he could hear safety announcements.
Despite complying “quickly and politely,” Adams, 44, claimed in a Friday Twitter rant that stewardess Lorraine Marshall called five police officers to “intimidate” him at the terminal following the flight from Brisbane.
“Your #RacistFlightAttendant was beyond rude & took it to the next level by calling the police on me. thank god the other passengers testified that SHE was out of Control,” Adams wrote in a tweet directed at Qantas.
“She singled every person of colourbin[sic] the flight and gave them a hard time,” he told his 12.8 million followers in another tweet.
The rant continued late into Friday night in a series of more than 20 tweets. At one point Adams called for people to stop attacking Marshall.
“Please do not send Hate…This type of disrespect and name calling is uncalled for…I don’t support abuse & attacks like this…I hope that everyone can be more compassionate & understanding towards one another…because it was the lack of compassion that caused this,” he wrote, alongside a screenshot of an angry message apparently sent to Marshall by one of the singer’s supporters.
“Racist B***h! You think because you’re white you’re better than everybody else? do you k[sic] know how much Will.I.Am is worth, you’ll never be worth that much in your life! Shame on you! At your age, you should do better,” the message from the unnamed social media user reads.
Neither the airline nor the flight attendant had commented on the allegations as of Saturday morning.
