West Coast Artist Kamaiyah Defends Drake Over Claims He's Never 'Done Anything for the Bay'

On Friday Drake released three new albums: Iceman, Maid of Honour and Habibiti. Iceman includes hyphy track "2 Hard 4 the Radio," which features Bay Area rappers P-Lo & Karri, and paid tribute to 1993 Mac Dre song "Too Hard For the F*ckin' Radio. Although Drizzy has acknowledged Dre's legendary influence in his music before and utilized the hyphy sound on his 2011 track "The Motto," one X user took offense at "2 Hard 4 the Radio." Along with a fact check being added beneath the X post, which referenced "The Motto" and Drake bringing out Mac Dre’s mother during a performance, Bay Area artist Kamaiyah was also mentioned. In 2016, YG tapped Drizzy and Kamaiyah as collaborators on "Why You Always Hatin?" from his sophomore album Still Brazy. "My double platinum plaque strongly disagrees," Kamaiyah said in response to the X user's claim. On a 2025 episode of podcast No Vultures, Kamaiyah shouted out Drake for acknowledging her "before the world did." "It was a mutual beneficial relationship," she said around the 19-minute mark of the video below. "Now your city going to always love him and he giving you his fans." She continued: "And I feel like that's what made him dope. He was like the industry's best kept secret A&R. That n***a was always finding the shit before everybody else."
