After a long time of struggling to free himself from the label, it looks like Waka Flocka is no longer signed to Atlantic Records.
“I’m officially a free agent,” he tweeted on Wednesday No label! I wanna personally thank every fan that called my old label.”
The Brick Squad rapper has been demanding his freedom from the record label since at least October 2015, when he tweeted, “I fucking hate my label LET ME BUY OUT Labels don’t do shit for the artist.” Then in November, he tweeted out Atlantic’s phone number and urged fans to call the label and order them to release Flockaveli 2, the long-awaited follow-up to his 2010 debut album.
A month later, he went in again: “I just wanna say FUCK my major label #AtlanticRecords. Fucking selling dreams.”
The last thing he officially released under his 1017 Brick Squad label was 2012’s Triple F Life: Friends, Fans & Family. That project included huge songs like “Round of Applause” with Drake and “Rooster in My Rari.”
Now that he’s a free agent, hopefully that means Flockaveli 2 is finally on the way. Earlier this year, he told fans they could expect it by winter.
