At least 9 actors from an aerial performance were injured at the Barnum and Bailey Circus in Providence, Rhode Island Sunday afternoon.
This incident occurred at the Dunkin Donuts Center during the 11 a.m. show, shortly before intermission.
During a high wire act, the wire snapped, critically injuring six and leaving three others with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Providence Fire Chief.
The victims fell from 30 feet in the air. The general manager of Ringling Brothers and the Barnum and Bailey's Legends Show says they have never had this kind of problem in past performances.
All of these victims were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and are expected to survive.
In a written statement, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey PR announced that an investigation had begun.
The Dunkin Donuts Center general manager says that there were other injuries at the scene, but it is unclear if harm was done to other performers or civilians.
Providence, East Providence, and Smithfield Fire Departments are assisting.
Additional performances that were scheduled for Sunday and Monday have been cancelled.
