Vic Mensa was arrested last week for carrying a concealed weapon. The “Down on My Luck” MC has a concealed carry permit, but spent a night behind bars because the permit did not come from the state where the arrest happened.
The Chicago rapper was pulled over in Beverly Hills for running a stop sign and having tinted windows, according to TMZ. Vic immediately told the police he had a gun in his possession, but he mistakenly believed that his permit allowed him to have the weapon in California. That assumption was wrong, and Vic was arrested by the cops.
Vic was charged with one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon. He was released on $35,000 bail after spending the night in jail.
The arrest was certainly frustrating for Vic, but not as demoralizing as his futile efforts to stop Donald Trump’s presidency. The talented MC spent much of the year campaigning for young people to vote, yet ultimately felt like Trump’s win was a necessary evil.
“I was in Atlanta working with The-Dream on some things. I had to remind myself that this wasn’t my election to win or lose,” he wrote in an essay. “Then, when I woke up in the morning, I realized that this had to happen because we’ve been pacified by having Barack [Obama] in office. That pacification would have only continued by having Hillary elected.”
Trump’s victory did not stop Vic from being politically active though. The Chi-Town rhymer joined the protest at Standing Rock just a few weeks after the election.
