VH1 ‘Tossed Around’ Idea Of Flavor Flav As ‘The Black-Chelor’

With reality TV reckoning with race, a longtime TV insider was reminded that VH1 once considered calling Flavor Flav’s 2006 dating show “The Black-chelor.”

“The top execs were tossing it around,” said the source. “It was more a nod to the fact that there was never going to be an actual black ‘Bachelor’ [on the ABC hit dating show], so Flavor Flav was the closest thing.”

The show was eventually named “Flavor of Love” — and the real “Bachelor” did indeed take until 2020 to pick its first black lead. The network announced in June that Matt James would take on the gig in an upcoming season.
