Twitter released a sneak peek of its new music-sharing application early Friday, as the website for the service launched.
Users can sign in with their Twitter credentials, but the service isn’t yet available to everyone.
On Thursday, the social media company confirmed its acquisition of We Are Hunted, a small music discovery service from Australia.
“There’s no question that Twitter and music go well together,” We Are Hunted wrote on its website.
“Artists turn to Twitter first to connect with fans, and people share and discover new songs and albums every day. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on at Twitter.”
While Twitter never said when the music app would go live, rumors buzzed that its launch would coincide with the Coachella music festival, which kicked off Friday in Indio, Calif.
The new app will suggest songs and artists based on what accounts a Twitter user follows, CNet.com reported. Songs are streamed through SoundCloud.
“Lovin the app,” tweeted Ryan Seacrest, who reportedly got an early look at the service. “Shows what artists are trending, also has up and coming artists.”
