Twista the "Overnight Celebrity" artist (real name Carl Mitchell) entered a guilty plea for his refusal to pay income taxes between 2019 through 2023. During this timeframe, however, Twista has been earning income from performances, album sales, streaming and royalties. Prosecutors reportedly informed the rapper about his growing income tax debt, but instead of making payments, Twista made agreements with a third party to secure advances on upcoming royalties. The rapper’s unpaid taxes reportedly date back to 2011 and have a total of more than $440,000. It’s alleged that despite being knowledgable of his tax issues, the Chicago rap legend still indulged in an extravagant lifestyle, like buying four upscale vehicles. The rapper entered a guilty plea to five misdemeanor counts of intentionally failing to pay income tax. On each count, the rapper faces a maximum penalty of one year in prison; however, the federal court may determine the exact sentence after other guidelines and factors are taken into consideration. Sentencing is scheduled for October 22.
