Troy Ave Calls Himself 'The Second Coming' Of Tupac

A firestorm erupted on Twitter Wednesday (April 5) after Troy Ave declared himself "the new Pac" on Power 105's The Breakfast Club.

The New York rapper appeared on the morning show for the first time since the deadly shooting he was connected to, which took place at Irving Plaza last May. The MC had been charged with attempted murder and spent six weeks in jail before being released on a $500,000 bond. Aside from discussing his legal drama, the Brooklyn MC discussed his plans for new music and current state, even comparing himself to late rap legend Tupac.

On Suffering PTSD

Charlamagne Tha God brought attention to the fact that Troy Ave was wearing a bulletproof vest during the interview, asking if he was "suffering from post traumatic stress disorder." The MC confirmed it as true ("I got P" -- before stumbling over the acronym -- "whatever the f--k it's called"), saying that "before [he would] underestimate his celebrity".

On His Fallout With Former Manager Hovain

Angela Yee inquired about the cover art for his new single "Never Switch," where a photo of his former manager's face is crossed out.. The rapper said he felt abandoned by Hovain during the shooting incident at Irving Plaza. He found it suspicious that Hovain was nowhere in sight.

On Christmas Assassination Attempt

The rapper described his ordeal after being shot on Christmas day last year. "I'm running on the motherf--king highway -- we jogging to the hospital -- nobody stopping, no cars stopping. I'm shot in my head. I'm shot in my back. I had a bullet in my head," said the 31-year-old.

He then went on to recount how a random person wearing a hoodie approached his car, and how they got into a standoff that resulted in Troy Ave yelling at the assailant, before being shot twice. The rapper thanked his girlfriend for saving his life by wrapping a Gucci scarf over his wounds to stop the bleeding, as well as a man in a minivan that drove them to the hospital.

On Facing A Possible 20-Year Sentence

After DJ Envy brought up the subject of his sentencing, the rapper went, "I'm facing some real life s--t!" He also confirmed that he is willing to sit 20 years in prison if that means not snitching on those involved with the Irving Plaza shooting incident.

On His Relationship With Banga's Family

Charlamagne brought up the rumors of Troy Ave being at odds with the family of his BSB Records affiliate Banga, who died at the shooting at Irving Plaza. Banga's family was said to have an issue with the rapper, because they heard allegations of Ave setting up their relative to be murdered. That's trickled into a smaller issue of the rapper not providing a headstone for his deceased friend, although the MC has said he didn't meet Banga's mother and their communication is "wishy-washy". He felt suspicious about the family's request for money for funeral arrangements without them providing any receipts.

On Taxstone's Arrest

Troy Ave pulled a Mariah Carey when asked about the arrest of hip-hop podcast host Taxstone, who was also connected to the Irving Plaza shooting: "I don't have no opinions on that n---a! I don't have opinions on no man that I don't know."

On His Beef With Joey Bada$$

Asked if he saw the loss of Banga as karma for taunting Joey Bada$$ about the suicide of Pro Era labelmate Capital Steez, Troy Ave responded that he didn't see it as such. During the height of their feud, Ave delivered a few bars in his diss track "Badass" about the unfortunate loss. Yee had to school the MC on mental illness, and reprimanded him about his comments. He defended his actions with this analogy: "We in a rap battle. N---a, Pac said some vicious sh-t to Big!"

On His Relationship With Kendrick Lamar

The hosts questioned Ave on why he considered the "Humble" MC to be "a weirdo rapper." Finishing his thoughts on the topic -- where he denied having that feeling -- the rapper commented, "I f--k with Kendrick cause the n---a reached out while I was in jail, and that's some real n---a sh-t."

On Being The "New Pac"

While boasting about the love he receives at the clubs and in the streets, the rapper said, "It's the second coming of Pac. It's New Pac!" However, he hopes to not go out like the legend, and wants to die old. Charlamagne warned the MC that social media wouldn't be kind to him for making that statement. The rapper had to clarify, "I never want to be another man ... I would never say that I'm 2Pac."
