Tony Yayo Dismisses Choosing Jay-Z’s Career Over 50 Cent

Tony Yayo could not believe what he was hearing when Alexx Media said he would prefer having Jay-Z’s career over 50 Cent’s. On the latest episode of Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant podcast with Akaash Singh, Yayo got into impassioned exchange with Alexx Media, comparing 50 Cent’s album sales to Jay-Z, when he said, “The type of career I would want: Jay’s career over 50.” “You’re fucking on drugs,” Yayo snapped at the 33:15 mark, causing Schulz to burst into laughter. “I’m not gonna say you a Jay-Z glazer,” said the G-Unit rapper and longtime friend of 50 Cent, to which Alexx Media reassured him that he’s a fan of the TV and entertainment mogul too. After suggesting Alexx could be a “50 hater,” Yayo finally explained why he was so vehemently opposed to the idea of wanting Jay-Z’s career. “He had a good presentation,” he said of Jay. “But when 50 Cent dropped, it felt like Tupac came back from the dead.” Yayo then touched on a talking point recently made by 50 Cent, saying, “Jay is smart enough to stand…next to the fire.” This included the 2003 Roc the Mic Tour headlined by Jay and 50. In a recent interview, 50 claimed Jay does not collaborate with one of his artists until they are “doing well enough to not need him” on a song. The G-Unit Records founder added that he has treated his signees like “my people” and would reach a point where he’s “beating myself up looking out for them.” Yayo argued that Jay-Z “came in the game way before” 50 Cent and G-Unit, but Get Rich or Die Tryin' was released in 2003, seven years before Jay’s debut studio album Reasonable Doubt. Hov did go on to release eight studio albums in that span. “Jay was successful already. Nas, everybody, was successful,” Yayo said. “We came in the 2000s, later on down the line, and 50 has more success than a lot of motherfuckers, bro.
