IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

TLC performed at Sunday night's American Music Awards and were joined by rapper Lil Mama.
Performing their hit song "Waterfalls," Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, 42, proved they still had what it took to bring them to Grammy Award-winning status in the '90s.

Still sorely missed was the original rapper of the trio, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, whose untimely demise occurred on Apr. 25, 2002, when she was involved in a tragic car accident. In the days leading up to her death, Left Eye was in La Ceiba, Honduras, and portions of her trip were documented on film. She was 30.

"It is amazing how the mysteries of life work," she can be heard saying in the footage, which was used for a VH1 documentary. "After every dark night there is a bright day."

"We had all grown up together and were as close as a family. Today we have truly lost our sister," T-Boz and Chilli said in a statement at the time.

Lil Mama, born Niatia Jessica Kirkland, did justice in stepping into the big shoes of the late rapper. She grooved alongside T-Boz and Chilli as they danced to the same choreography from the song's 1995 music video.

"I am personally thankful to TLC for allowing me to be a part of their great legacy," Lil Mama said in a statement to the Daily News. "I am honored and humbled by this entire experience."

While no one can ever truly replace Left Eye, the 24-year-old rapper filled a void for the evening's performance. She also plays the role of Left Eye in the recently released TLC biopic, "CrazySexyCool."

'CrazySexyCool' is really a version of all women -- because we all have those sides, I believe," Chilli told Us Weekly at the NYC premiere of the film on Oct. 15.

Still, the memory of Left Eye lives on.

"Lisa had one of the biggest hearts of anybody we've ever known," T-Boz and Chilli added during a call into MTV's "TRL" the day after Left Eye's passing. "She did charity work with kids for the lupus disease. She adopted a little girl named Snow … Lisa could do anything she put her mind to."
