Tina Knowles-Lawson Slams Beyoncé’s Critics

Don’t mess with Beyoncé or you may have to answer to her mother.

Responding to criticism her daughter has received over her upcoming visual album “Black is King,” Tina Knowles-Lawson took to Instagram in a series of posts over the weekend defending the 38-year-old Grammy winner.

“Those who are criticizing the film (before they even see it) saying it’s unauthentic, upset that B doesn’t actually go to Africa or say that Bey is simply using African cultures for gain are wrong,” Knowles-Lawson wrote in one post.

The performer has been criticized for using African themes and imagery in her music, despite not filming or performing in Africa. “Black is King” premiere July 31 on Disney+.

In another lengthy Instagram rebuttal, Knowles-Lawson pointed out that her daughter makes less money “with her Afrocentric content” doing so out of her own interest in the subject. She also noted that her daughter both “studied African costumes and such” and worked with “actual African dancers, film makers, directors.”

And, in another post, the 66-year-old urged those who criticized her daughter to “stop being a social media terrorist to the wrong people,” adding that they should redirect their efforts towards critiquing and tearing down “the systems that hurt and suppress us.”

Knowles-Lawson ended the post by writing, Beyoncé “has a right to her heritage as well as anyone else in the world.”
