IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

Back in October, The Weeknd announced a forthcoming collaboration with Marvel that his Starboy character would be made into a comic book. Five months later and Marvel has produced a release date for The Weeknd Presents: Starboy. The debut issue is slated to hit shelves on June 13, according to a Marvel press release.

The artist born Abel Tesfaye described being turned into a superhero as a dream come true: "Marvel is the pinnacle of success in their field and I’ve been a lifelong fan of their work. To be able to partner with them is a dream come true."

Marvel provided some background on the basis of the comic's plot, "The city of Alphatron is in the grip of a crime wave, as the terrifying Jack 'The Chef' Smiley has unified all criminal organizations with his ruthlessness and strategic genius. Not content with brutally murdering his victims, Smiley also feasts upon their flesh. The citizens live in fear and the police have been directly targeted," explains the comic book junkie. "The city is in dire need of a hero. It will not get one, but it will get what it deserves: Starboy!"

The 28-year-old is credited as a contributor to crafting the story in addition to La Mar Taylor and Christos Gage with the artwork designed by Eric Nguyen and Guru-eFX. The Weeknd is currently hard at work finishing up his next album, as he revealed clips of the mastering process on his Instagram Friday (March 23).

The Weeknd Presents: Starboy will be available on June 13.
