IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

In 2013, Kaylee Sidris—better known in her circle as Kay—planted the seeds for what would become one of the most respected movements in indie music. What started as a way to motivate family members to take their music careers seriously grew into something bigger: Independent Chicks Ent.—a platform created by independent artists, for independent artists.

The spark behind the brand? Two Black women driven by passion, resilience, and a vision to build a legacy. They saw social media not just as a trend, but as a powerful tool to elevate unknown voices to new heights. As the digital wave grew, so did their mission. They leaned into content creation, networking, and real-time engagement to push their artists forward.

From hosting showcases, launching podcasts, building an online radio station, and even curating indie music festivals, Independent Chicks Ent. wasn’t afraid to try it all. Every move wasn’t perfect—but every lesson made them sharper. Over time, they didn’t just build a platform—they built trust in the underground.

They also realized something important: independent artists often battle with burnout, doubt, and lack of support. That’s when Kay and her team widened their circle, extending love and resources to artists outside the family, providing not just visibility, but real motivation.

And the industry took notice. From 2019 Marketer of the Year nominations at the North Mississippi Music Awards, to hosting a mixtape with La’ Chat, to launching a 24/7 global online radio station via Live365—these aren’t small wins. They’re milestones. Add to that the 2020 Industry Judge of the Year (Hood Idol Awards), their Indie Music & Food Festival in 2022, SSC Team Awards, and SEA nominations in 2023, and you’re looking at a movement with receipts.

At the heart of it all, Kay and her team are clear on one thing: they love independent artists. They believe in the underdog. They believe in the power of consistency, the magic of authenticity, and the beauty of starting from scratch and still making noise.

This isn’t just a company. It’s a culture. And it’s only getting stronger.
