THE OLD SPICE GUY IS GOING PLACES! JUST INKED A DEAL WITH NBC!

He's on a Peacock.

Isaiah Mustafa, a former NFL player and current Old Spice pitchman, has inked a talent deal with NBC, reports Variety. The deal will likely keep Mustafa in-house with the network, which will set him up to audition on several shows and, the industry mag says, possibly cast him in pilots down the road.

It's been a long road and a big career change for Mustafa to get to this point. From 1997-2000, he played professional football, with teams including Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders. He also lodged a stint with the Barcelona Dragons in the NFL Europe.

Mustafa left the game in 2000 to pursue acting, but could only come up with several bit parts ("Castle" and "Ugly Betty").

Mustafa's stock rose drastically after he appeared in an Old Spice ad as The Man Your Man Could Smell Like, a suave, shirtless, lothario who peddled body wash atop a magnificent white stallion.

The spot originally aired during the Super Bowl and the reaction was positive enough to land Mustafa guest spots on both Oprah Winfrey?a>??s and Ellen DeGeneres' couches.

"I've been doing this for eight years," Mustafa said. "And I'm still pushing hard. When this came out, it felt like my work had paid off."

Universal casting VP Grace Wu has sung Mustafa's praises for a long time, and is glad to have him aboard at NBC.

"We felt he was a piece of talent worth developing," she said. "He's an attractive guy who's just as funny and charming."

Variety also reports Wu had attempted to cast Mustafa in a pilot shortly after the Super Bowl spot, but it fell through. The talent deal, however, ensures he'll get another crack or two at TV. He already has his eye on which projects he’s interested in: the funny stuff.

"I grew up in that 'Cosby Show,' 'Family Ties' era, and kept that going even through college with 'Seinfeld' and 'Friends,' " Mustafa said. "To me, [NBC] controlled comedy and dictated my life on Thursday nights. And I think that's my strength, doing comedy."

Mustafa has also shot a new Old Spice ad (set to debut in the coming months), and landed a role in Tyler Perry?a>??s film "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf."

He was also voted on PopEater as the most popular Old Spice pitchman of all time, beating out names Bruce Campbell, Neil Patrick Harris, LL Cool J, Terry Crews (currently making rounds as the Odor Blocker Body Wash Man) and Brian Urlacher.
