THAILAND POLICE SAVE OVER 1,000 DOGS FROM ENDING UP ON THE DINNER PLATE IN VIETNAM!

Fido may want to steer clear of Vietnam.
More than one thousand dogs were stuffed into cramped cages on trucks making their way into the Southeast Asian country Thursday evening. Their destination? The dinner table.

Luckily, Thai authorities caught wind of the illegal activity and intercepted the four vehicles before they crossed the border from the Nkhon Phanom province of Thailand into Vietnam, the Associated Press reported.

The dog piles were made up of many strays, but also a good number of household pets, according to the news source.

Trafficked dogs can bring in around $33 per animal when sold in Vietnam.

According to the Daily Mail, 119 dogs were already dead at the time of the raid, and 1,011 more dogs were piled into the trafficking trucks.

The cause of the dogs' deaths is uncertain, though a livestock development official speculated that they most likely died from suffocation or from being thrown from the trucks as the suspects sped away from the Thai officials.

Police have currently charged two Thai men and a Vietnamese man with trafficking and illegal transportation of animals, which is punishable by a mere one-year maximum jail sentence and fine of up to 20,000 baht (or $670), according to the police case officer.

Currently, 13 countries around the world still feast on dog meat delicacies, including China, the Philippines, Korea, Switzerland, Mexico and Taiwan.
