Texas rapper Obe Noir was shot and killed in the middle of a street after running for his life early Monday, authorities said.
Obe Noir — whose real name is Xavier Roberson — was fatally shot in Houston around 3:40 a.m. after witnesses reported hearing gunfire and seeing him being chased down a street, according to the Houston Police Department.
Two men followed Roberson in a vehicle, stopped and then exited to blast the shots at Roberson, who collapsed on the ground, cops said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspects fled and remain at large, police said.
Local rappers Cal Wayne and Trae Tha Truth mourned their friend Roberson, whose stage name was Obe Noir.
“This can not be real. Not you, WTF! This can’t be happening, not to you lil brother,” Wayne wrote in an Instagram post.
Wayne told KTRK-TV, “He was an excellent storyteller and we’ll miss him.”
The rapper also noted Roberson was an activist and was friends with George Floyd, whose death at the hands of a Minnesota police officer last May sparked nationwide protests.
“U aint Deserve The way they done You. Rest Easy King,” Trae Tha Truth posted on Instagram.
