Terrence Howard Ex-Wife Claims He Sucker Punched Her

A judge ordered Terrence Howard to steer clear of his ex-wife Tuesday after she claimed the Oscar-nominated actor “sucker punched” and kicked her during a nuclear fight in Costa Rica.

Howard, who joined co-stars Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker for Monday night’s star-studded New York premiere of their new flick “The Butler,” denies the allegations.

A Los Angeles judge granted the stay-away order after an attempted reconciliation turned into recriminations. Michelle Ghent claimed in a lengthy declaration that Howard “sucker punched” her in the face, “grabbed” her neck, threw her against a mirror and tried to choke her three times during a July 29 argument in a vacation rental home.

Ghent said she “nervously” pepper sprayed Howard after he glared at her and “looked toward the space next to the bed where he keeps two curved knives about 4-6 inches in length.”

She said Howard turned his head when she sprayed and knocked her to the ground.

“While I was on the ground, (Howard) kicked me repeatedly in the head and shoulders with strong blows,” she said. “I knew I had to get away from (Howard) or he would try to kill me.”

Ghent claimed Howard turned violent after she told him their effort to rekindle their romance wasn’t working.

Attached to her filing were color photos of her alleged injuries, including one showing a badly blackened eye.

Howard filed his own statement with the court claiming it was “no coincidence” that Ghent applied for her restraining order while he was promoting “The Butler.”

He said Ghent previously vowed to “ruin (his) reputation and career with baseless allegations.”

Howard, 44, said Ghent is unstable and threated him in a series of disturbing text messages allegedly sent in the days surrounding their May 6 divorce judgment.

In one alleged May 4 text exchange Howard included as an exhibit, Ghent, 36, purportedly stated she “tried committing suicide.”

Another alleged exchange dated May 8 included threats Ghent purportedly made to Howard.

“I know where u and ur family live. Watch yourself,” she allegedly texted. “U should move.”

Howard said Ghent also threated to kill him and his family during their blowup argument in Costa Rica.

“Michelle suddenly went crazy for no apparent reason, said ‘I told you not to f-k with me,’ and she took out a canister of mace/pepper spray and proceeded to spray me,” he wrote in his sworn statement.

He said Ghent fled the vacation home while he was flushing out his eyes and had no visible injuries when he saw her the next morning.

The he said-she said battle is nothing new for the estranged couple.

Ghent received a similar restraining order in 2011 after claiming Howard hit her several times and threated to throw her from a hotel balcony in South Africa.

She said then that the abuse began within a week of the couple’s January 2010 marriage.

“I live in constant fear of Michelle’s endeavors to ruin my reputation,” Howard told the court in 2011.
