Hip-hop artist Tekashi 6ix9ine is now only facing misdemeanor assault charges following accusations he tightly gripped an NYPD lieutenant’s hand.
The rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, had originally been slapped with felony assault charges for the May 20 incident. The charges carry up to seven years behind bars.
But the raps were downgraded during a July 11 court appearance, and he now only faces up to a year in jail if convicted, court records show.
Hernandez allegedly grabbed and squeezed the cop’s hand following his arrest for driving with a suspended license, which caused “pain and swelling” to the officer, a police spokesman said at the time.
