‘Supacell’ Actor Ghetts Jailed For 12 Years In UK Over Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash

Ghetts, the Supacell actor whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, has been jailed for 12 years over a fatal hit-and-run car crash. The 41-year-old had pleaded guilty to causing the death of student Yabin Tamang by dangerous driving in December, and a further count of dangerous driving prior to the fatal collision. In addition to a sentence of 12 years, Ghetts has been disqualified from driving for 17 years. The actor is best known as antagonist Krazy in Netflix‘s gritty superhero drama Supacell, but is also a successful rapper with numerous albums and singles to his name. On the night of the incident, October 18 last year, police said Ghetts had consumed alcohol and was driving across central London towards his home in Woodford in the east of the city. CCTV footage captured him driving at “excessive speed, executing dangerous manoeuvres and causing separate damage in a collision with another vehicle,” the Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement today.Ghetts collided with Tamang, a 20-year-old Nepalese student, at speed in excess of 60mph on a residential road, causing catastrophic, fatal injuries. The driver failed to stop and continued home, and was arrested the next day. Tamang died two days after the incident. Shani Taggart of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Justin Clarke-Samuel knew he was in no fit state to drive and there was clear evidence of his excessive speed and disregard for road users as he drove incredibly dangerously across our city. “We built a comprehensive case against Clarke-Samuel, focusing on CCTV footage, toxicology, and analysis of his mobile data to pinpoint his route through London. After presenting this evidence, we secured guilty pleas to these two charges and today’s sentence will see Clarke-Samuel face the consequences of his fatal decision to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking. “Our thoughts remain with Yubin Tamang’s family today as they grieve the loss of their only child, and with his loved ones who have to navigate a life without him. Supacell Season 2 began shooting just over a week before the hit-and-run and had not yet wrapped. The Netflix show, about a group of Black Londoners who unexpectedly develop superpowers, has racked up hundreds of millions of hours following its launch in 2024. Andrew Onwubolu, widely known as Rapman, created the show, which also stars Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Josh Tedeku and Adelayo Adedayo. The fate of Krazy, Ghetts’ character, had been left ambiguous at the end of Season 1.
