Suge Knight Delays Murder Trial As Lawyers Fight To Lower $10 Million Bail

Suge Knight agreed to delay his Feb. 22 murder trial Tuesday amid a renewed effort to get his staggering $10 million bail reduced with claims Dr. Dre had him ambushed.

The founder of Death Row Records plans to file his new bail motion in the coming weeks based on a subpoenaed check, new eyewitness testimony and continued health issues, his fiancée Toi-Lin Kelly told the Daily News.

"We have a really great shot at our next bail hearing," Kelly said as she left the courthouse in downtown Los Angeles with Knight's parents and his sister.

"Suge is really willing to go to trial tomorrow. That's how much compelling evidence we have. We are very ambitious about moving forward to trial," she said.

Kelly declined to name the new witness but said he was at Tam's restaurant in January 2015 when Knight ran over two men with his truck, killing Compton businessman Terry Carter, 55.

Knight has pleaded not guilty in the case, saying he was the victim of an armed assault and never meant to hit Carter as he fled the scene fearing for his life.

Prosecutors claim Knight intentionally hit the gas to mow down Cle "Bone" Sloan, a security staffer who was working on the Dr. Dre-produced NWA biopic "Straight Outta Compton."

Sloan had been fighting with Knight at a production site for the movie and later at Tam's. He was struck by Knight's truck but survived.

Knight's sensational claims against Dr. Dre were outlined in a civil lawsuit filed in Los Angeles in October.

He alleged Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, wanted him dead to get out from under a supposed lifetime contract giving Knight 30% of Young's earnings.

Knight — who's been locked up nearly two years on murder and attempted murder charges — claims Young first hired a gunman to shoot him inside West Hollywood’s 1OAK nightclub in August 2014, then paid Sloan to stage the follow-up ambush at Tam's.

"Andre Young is responsible for both crimes," said Knight's October lawsuit, which was filed as a cross complaint to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Carter's family.

"Given that Dre has had zero interaction with Suge since leaving Death Row Records in 1996, we hope that Suge's lawyer has lots of malicious prosecution insurance," an attorney for Young said in a statement reacting to the lawsuit.

Knight walked into court Tuesday wearing an orange jail uniform. He smiled at his relatives sitting in the gallery and told the judge he agreed to the trial delay.

"You working out like I told you?" Judge Ronald Coen asked him.

"Whatever you told me, sir," Knight replied.

The trial date was pushed out because of issues with witnesses, Knight's lawyer Antoine Williams told The News.

New lawyer Duane Folke also joined Knight's legal team Tuesday. Williams said they now expect the trial to start in May.

He said his side is "working diligently" to "confirm" evidence to support Knight's claims.

"There's definitely some connection" to Young, he said.

Knight first accused Young of conspiring to kill him in court paperwork filed in April.

Carter's family also took aim at Young in their wrongful death lawsuit, saying the rap titan and his fellow movie producers should have known bad blood with Knight presented a risk.

Lawyers for Young and fellow NWA member Ice Cube fired back saying there was "no justification" to hold the men responsible for the "outrageous and criminal attack" by Knight.
