Music legend Stevie Wonder took a knee and then two in solidarity with NFL players at his performance at the Global Citizen Festival after President Trump called for athletes to be fired for protesting during the playing of the national anthem.
“Tonight, I‘m taking a knee for America,” Wonder told the audience in Central Park on Saturday night as his son, Kwame Morris, steadied him on the stage.
Then he put his other knee down.
“I’m taking both knees,” the “Superstition” singer then said. “Both knees in prayer for our planet, our future, our leaders of the world and our globe.”
During a speech Friday in Alabama, Trump blasted NFL players like former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick for kneeling during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, saying NFL owners should fire them.
