A prominent state senator is set to issue a legislative subpoena to the maker of Four Loko beverages.
Senate Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee Chairman Jeffrey Klein is seeking manufacturing, distribution, and marketing information from Chicago-based Phusion Projects. Klein wants the info as he considers ways to regulate Four Loko in a way that could better keep the high-alcohol product out of the hands of kids.
"This company makes a product for sale in New York that's cheap, tastes sweet and packs a six-pack punch in a 22-ounce can," Klein said.
The Bronx Democrat said he's issuing the subpoenas because Phusion Projects and others from the high-alcohol flavored malt beverage industry refused to participate in a recent hearing.
