Spike Lee went off on a fan who reportedly asked the famed director to profanely criticize Palestine for a selfie in a Yankee Stadium dining area on Wednesday, before the Yankees eliminated the Boston Red Sox in a wild-card series shows Lee being restrained by a stadium staffer as he shouts at the person. “Why’d you come over to me?!” the Oscar winner appeared to yell in the Legends Suite. Someone with a credential then motioned for the person to leave, saying, “You gotta go, you gotta go.” Sports talk show host Andy Slater, who shared a clip of the incident, wrote on X that the fan was filming Lee while he ate and then asked the “Do The Right Thing” filmmaker “about Palestine.” Lee was in a jovial mood before the confrontation, taking selfies with admirers and even leaving seats open for those who wanted to join him. Lee went viral for wearing a Palestinian flag accessory during the NBA All-Star Game weekend in February. “The Clothes I Wore are Symbols of My Concern For The Palestinian Children and Civilians, And My Utmost Belief In Human Dignity For All Humankind,” he explained later on Instagram. “What I Wore Was Not Intended As A Gesture Of Hostility To Jewish People Or To Support Violence Against Anyone, Nor Was It Intended As A Comment On The Significance Of Deni Being An All-Star.” Lee was pictured with actor Nick Turturro as he watched the Yankees’ 9-2 victory on Wednesday.
