Snoop Dogg Launches Cannabis Product Line In Colorado

The high priest of rap is about to put some money where his mouth has long been.

Snoop Dogg has unveiled a line of pot products in Colorado — the latest effort by the “Smoke Weed Everyday” singer to spread the gospel of cannabis.

"It's a true blessing that I can share the products I love so much with y'all today," said Snoop, born Calvin Broadus Jr. at a launch party for Leafs by Snoop late Monday (and into Tuesday) in Denver.

He claimed that all eight strains — four mellowing indica varieties, three energizing sativa strains and one high cannabidiol version — were “hand-picked by yours truly.”

“So you know it's the hottest product out there. It's the real deal and you gotta get out to Colorado to try it first!" added Snoop, who once claimed to toke 81 times a day.

Pot is legal for recreational use in Colorado and Washington states. Many other states have made marijuana legal for medical uses. And dozens of local jurisdictions have effectively decriminalized the once-feared drug.

Leafs by Snoop will include smokable flowers; edibles in the form of chocolate, gummies, drops and fruit chews; and concentrated marijuana.

In addition to his pot line, the 44-year-old hip hop mogul turned pot-preneur is the managing member of Los Angeles-based cannabis focused venture capital fund Casa Verde (Spanish for “greenhouse”); has invested in the startup Eaze, a medical marijuana delivery service and the packaging company FunkSac, which makes odor-locking baggies; has licensed a line of Grenco Double G herbal vaporizer pens; and started the marijuana lifestyle website, Merry Jane.

The ganga aficionado once got high with country legend Willie Nelson, with whom he collaborated on the song “My Medicine” in 2008. Nelson also has his own line of pot, called Willie’s Reserve, but recently said in an interview with New York magazine that he is not a connoisseur but simply likes to get high.

Snoop Dogg, by comparison, is a true pot lover’s pothead.

“Wherever my musical journey has taken me around the world, it's beautiful to see how chronic leafs are a common source of peace, love and soul that connects us all,” he said in the mission statement on his newest venture’s website. “Leafs by Snoop is my way of sharing the experience I have with the finest quality cannabis one could imagine. Let's medicate, elevate, and put it in the air!”

And let’s put it in the bank, too. Marijuana is one of the country's fastest-growing industries, raking in $2.4 billion last year, up 74% from the prior year.

By 2019, the legal pot market is expected to grow to $11 billion.
