Sherman Hemsley, star of "The Jeffersons," died July 24 at his home in El Paso, Texas, according to TMZ; he was 74 years old. Hemsley debuted his iconic character George Jefferson on the hit "All in the Family," then landed a spinoff, "The Jeffersons," which ran for 11 seasons. Hemsley went on to star as Deacon Frye on NBC's 1986-91 sitcom "Amen," guest starred on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," and appeared in TV ads for Denny's and Old Navy. He had no wife or children.
