Shaquille O’Neal is covering the funeral expenses for the 12-year-old girl who was killed in a fight at a bus stop in Georgia. Jada West was fatally injured in a school bus fight earlier this month in Douglas County, Georgia. Her mother said she had a severe brain injury. O’Neal said the story touched his heart the moment he heard about it on the news. “As a father, my heart goes out to Jada’s family. No parent should ever have to bury their child, and if there is anything I can do to ease even a small part of that burden, then it is the right thing to do,” he said. “Our community must surround this family with love, support, and compassion during such a painful moment. Henry County Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett said community is important in time of tragedy. O’Neal serves as the Chief of Community Relations for the sheriff’s department. “The loss of a child shakes every parent, every community member, and every one of us who serves the public,” Scandrett said. “Jada’s life mattered, and in times like these, our responsibility is to stand beside families in their darkest moments. Officials said the gesture aims to allow Jada’s family to focus on remembering her life and legacy while receiving support from the community. School officials said the fight was not related to anything happening at the middle school.
