Brooklyn rapper/music producer Safaree Samuels, aka Scaff Beezy, will make his “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” debut on the show’s Season 3 premiere (Monday night on VH1).
Samuels, who dated mega-rap star Nicki Minaj for 12 years (they broke up in 2014), says he’s loving every minute of his new TV life.
“It’s definitely a new adjustment living in LA. It’s like learning to walk all over again,” he says. “I never lived in LA when I was single. It’s a whole new process and I’m enjoying it — I can’t lie.”
Samuels, 35, says he was hesitant about doing reality TV, but that appearing on VH1’s “K. Michelle: My Life” made his decision easier.
“[Appearing on a reality show] has always been something that was brought to me but I was unsure about it,” he says. “Then someone said to me, ‘Are you just going to sit here and turn down everything?’ I realized it doesn’t hurt to be in front of people every single week to promote myself — so why not?”
Samuels is already being criticized for his decision to appear on the show, particularly by popular talk show host Wendy Williams, who scolded him on her “Hot Topics” segment. “You are so thirsty for this fame … that you are going to do ‘Love and Hip Hop?’,” she said.
Samuels eventually responded to her via Instagram, referring to Williams as “Wendell Williams” and alternately calling Williams “him” and “her” when talking to The Post.
“That is his job to talk about people and try to pull them down but I am not going to go to the zoo and tell her how to do her job,” he says. “So nobody can tell me how to live my life.”
Samuels, who has Jamaican roots, is a onetime investor in LA’s Philippe Chow restaurant. He’s busy promoting his new mix tape,“Real Yard Vibes,” his charity “Stunt 4 Jamaica” and a line of coconut oil debuting next month. “What taught me the value of a dollar was blowing money on nonsense,” he says. “It’s so crazy how much a thousand dollars can do in Jamaica. I was so impulsive I would call my jeweler and buy a chain for $125,000 and then go to a motorcycle dealership and buy four different bikes because I didn’t know which one to get. Spend $50,000 on all four motorcycles and then spend more to get them customized.”
But it took one single moment for Samuels to realize he was spending money due to feeling empty.
“The thing that made me realize I was doing too much was when I was sitting in a $10 million dollar house and I was in the garage and I saw the bikes and the car and I still was not happy,” he says. “It was like I was spending all of that money to fill a void and I didn’t know why. I quickly learned that money does not bring happiness.”
That realization means that Samuels acts differently when he comes back home.
“When I’m in Brooklyn … I have to be more careful. People are jealous and expect a lot more from me,” he says. “People look at me and … think I’m way above what I really am, and they expect a lot. I have to tell them, ‘Look I’m still grinding.’ You have to go out there and get it yourself the same way I’m doing.’ ”
And regarding his famous ex-girlfriend Minaj, Samuels says he’s “tired of talking” about her. “Before, people would see me and say, ‘Oh, that’s that dude with her.’ But now when people see me they say, ‘That’s Safaree.’ So what I’m doing is working.”
“Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” Season 3 premiere 8 p.m. Monday on VH1.
