The Good Girl Gone Bad has done well for herself.
Rihanna will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award — MTV's highest honor — at the network's upcoming Video Music Awards.
The 28-year-old diva joins a supergroup of previous winners including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Guns N' Roses, Beastie Boys, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, R.E.M. and Beyoncé.
The “Diamonds” singer belongs in that rarified air — she's won eight Grammys, two VMA Video of the Year statuettes and sold 61 million albums worldwide. She’s also been anointed the best-selling digital artist of all time by the RIAA.
She’ll have a tough time, though, topping the acceptance speech of last year’s winner, Kanye West. The rapper used the pulpit to give a rambling 11-minute speech, culminating in his announcement of a 2020 presidential run.
Rihanna will also perform at the award show, which airs live from New York’s Madison Square Garden on Aug. 28 at 9 p.m.
Once the ceremony starts, however, it's shaping up to be Beyoncé's show. Queen Bey leads all artists with 11 total nominations, with Adele's eight nods putting her at a distant second.
