Rihanna has already proven her mastery at dominating most consumer markets, from her sportswear collaboration with Puma to her inclusive beauty line and body-positive lingerie collection, and now the 30-year-old pop star is trying her hand at something new: her own luxury fashion label.
According to WWD, the “Wild Thoughts” singer is currently in discussions with luxury conglomerate LVMH, which owns brands including Dior, Marc Jacobs and Givenchy, to partner on the launch of her own eponymous high-end fashion house.
LVMH is typically solely in the business of purchasing existing brands, making this the first house the company would create from scratch since Christian Lacroix in 1987.
The parent company has also reportedly already begun poaching a number of its employees from Louis Vuitton and Celine to work with the Barbadian superstar on a line that is set to span ready-to-wear, leather goods and accessories, and could potentially be introduced concurrently with her ninth album, which is set to be released later this year.
Of course, the bad gal had already sparked rumors on her own earlier this week, as she was spotted wearing a pair of giant sunglasses bearing the Fenty brand name across the side. WWD’s sources explained that the musician has simply been taking one of her prototypes out for a test drive.
